Inclusive Fitness - Good News
The Leisure Centre has had a referral scheme with the Hadleigh surgery and the Ipswich Hospital for some years; there are now people attending regularly of all ages and abilities. To ensure that most people can do a full workout, new leg curl/leg raise equipment has been purchased to add to the number of machines which are "inclusive", which means they can be accessed by non-disabled and disabled people. Because Hadleigh Leisure Centre is non-profit-making, any new equipment has been obtained by accessing grants and or fundraising. This latest piece is the result of a grant from the Local Strategic Partnership, applied by Optua (a Suffolk disability charity), by fundraising by customers and staff and finally with a grant from Councillor Grutchfield's Locality Budget. Many thanks to all people who sponsored, purchased, organised or helped us make this acquisition possible.
Volunteers required - Gym Buddies
We are looking for special people who can help us with our inclusive fitness project. If you have time on your hands and would be interested in helping less able people to enjoy the benefits of exercise, please contact us. On Monday and Friday mornings our referral staff are kept busy with an increasing number of people who have been referred by the Hospital, local GP's or are self referred. We are looking for volunteers who would like to contribute their time to this worthwhile project under the supervision of qualified staff. Hadleigh Leisure Centre is on a School site, therefore regular volunteers would be subject to background and CRB checks. Very little training is required for these simple tasks. This is an ideal opportunity to help other people to manage or improve their health in a session that has become quite social.
Please phone 01473 824441 or speak to our Duty Staff if you are interested.
